Dear Friends!
We’re already at work on our 42nd summer season of great musicals, and this year “The British Are Coming!”
Not only do we return to the majesty and power of Les Miserables, we also get to go to Monty Python’s Spamalot with a very wacky King Arthur, and we get to soar through the sky with one of the very first regional productions of Disney’s and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins! For something classic and something new, we have a beautiful new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I, and the American premiere of a hilarious new musical comedy called Betty Blue Eyes, from the creators of HONK!
The young people we will be hiring to create these shows will have a wonderfully wide range of styles to learn and perform, and our audiences will enjoy a lively menu of diversified times, places, and musical genres.
The season ticket renewals have been happily tumbling in since August, and several corporate sponsors have already stepped up to commit for another year.
With good ticket sales and corporate underwriting, this is a great start for keeping this wonderful organization healthy and growing.
BUT we need help from you to bring us the rest of the way!
Last year we provided about 300 jobs, and involved over 2,000 young people in various capacities. We purchased over 800 hotel room nights, and rented dozens of apartments for our casts and crews. We spent about 70% of our 3 million dollar budget back into the Wichita economy.
And the result? Hundreds of young artists who took pride in their work, and over 60,000 satisfied theatergoers who celebrated the richness of their city.
Won’t you help us keep this cultural icon alive and well? We’re currently represented on Broadway by over 30 artists who got their start here. They say they couldn’t have done it without us, and we know we can’t do it without you.
