THE ACADEMY presents the 2024 JESTER AWARDS
The Jester Awards program recognizes the extraordinary amount of work, creativity, and dedication that faculty and students pour into their high school theatrical productions. Recognition is given to casts and crews, directors, designers, and all who work to stage these great works of musical theatre in Kansas.
GYPSY
Audience favorite Karen L. Robu stars as Mama Rose - the story of a stage mother whose ambition for her daughters and herself is set to song with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and music by Jule Styne. Rated PG for mild adult themes and implied nudity. Ages 5 and older.
9 TO 5
Dolly Parton's songs drive a heartfelt workplace comedy about a terrible boss and three women who conspire to change their reality. Big production numbers and a snappy script make the transformation of the successful 1980 movie a delight. Rated PG for sexual innuendo, language, and drug use. Ages 5 and older.
DISNEY'S FROZEN
For the past decade, princess sisters Anna and Elsa have delighted children of all ages with megahits like "Love is an Open Door" and "Let It Go." Disney magic will come to life onstage with brand new sets and costumes built by MTWichita specifically for this production! Rated G. Full-length matinees on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14 at 2pm will be open to all patrons age 3 and up, otherwise ages 5 and older.
MATILDA
Matilda shows us the transformative power of a child's imagination and determination! With clever songs and action-packed choreography, the Roald Dahl children's novel about school and family is sure to entertain adults and children alike. Rated PG for scary moments. Ages 5 and older.
BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL
Carole King's beloved songs have been part of the American soundtrack for decades. See the story behind songs like "I Feel the Earth Move," "One Fine Day," and "The Locomotion." Rated PG for discussion of adult themes like infidelity. Ages 5 and older.
